With fall fast approaching I am quickly getting into my crafting mode, and the new projects sitting around my home are a testament to that! I started working on this one a few days ago and thought I would share it with you. I am sure that most of you have seen braided rugs in primitive stores before and I just love them! They are so thick and I love that they are so durable! I have been eyeing one of these for some time now, but as is the case with most things, I saw it and couldn't bear to pay the high price they wanted because I was sure there was some way for me to make one. So, I started tearing some fabric that I had here in the house into half inch strips and tied them together in order to make a long piece of fabric about half an inch thick. Then I wound it into a ball and started crocheting this rug. I am loving it and it is only about a foot long and four inches wide, but I am so anxious to get it going!
Here is a closer picture of the rug itself and you can see the next fabric that I will be working into it underneath. This is so much fun and so easy! I do believe that I will be making many more of these! I can't wait to get it as large as I am planning and start another for my kitchen! The nice thing is that the pattern still shows somewhat but is not overwhelming either. The fabric can be seen up close in the next picture even better and I am anxious to see how the floral print looks worked into the rug.

What new projects are you planning on working on?

Wow, Kristen! I love it! You make me want to add this to my list too! I've always got tons of projects going. :D
First of all, YES he is a very handsome husband and I love him to pieces. I can't believe that grey starting to show in his hair. HE IS TOOOOO YOUNG.
That rug is going to be terrific. Heidi wants to do that, and I took a large size chrochet hook to her a few years back, she never did start it.
I wonder if it would be hard on my hands? I sure have the fabric. I would like to do a round one. Next time we are together, maybe you can show me.
I started another cross stitch. A July angel from the book I put on my blog. I am doing it on 18 count with no glasses. I cannot believe I can see it, and had to start with white on white.
Ok, sorry for the longggg comment.
Love you, Gramma
That is wonderful! I love it. I am so impressed with your abilities!
Hugs, Sharon
Hey! That is the fabric that I gave you :o) I can't wait to see the finished product. Maybe after we get all moved in and settled, I can start doing some projects again! I miss you and love you. Next time you talk to Mitch please tell him I think of him often and love him! Send him hugs from Zoe and I also. Love you!!!

I started making one of those rugs with old T-Shirts. Unfortunately I didn't get too far.
I was looking in the background of the pix of your son. That is a bucket load of scrapping paper. WOW!!
I really wanted to make one of those too but I can't crochet very well....
Have a great weekend!
Kristen, I LOVE your rug! I've always wanted to crochet a rag rug from some of my fabrics but never have. I love the way yours is turning out, and now I'm thinking it might make a good winter project :)

Hey Ditty! Welcome back to the world. Your family missed you, you know. I had Gramma bring me a hook to make one of these and still have not started it. I have to get some of my many, and I do mean many, UFOs done first. No time to start this. I want to reduce some of my quilt stash by making myself a braided rug. But now I know my clever niece can make one for me. :) Right clever niece???
Love and hugs ~
Heidi
I love it!
The rug looks nice babe, you might make one for the end of the bed for my slippers?#%#?$
Hi Kristen ~ sure have missed you and hope all is going good for you and yours. You come into my thoughts often and I pray that Mitch is safe over in Iraq. Sweetheart, I know that angst you are going through having had my son in the Middle East. Just keep your mind positive and pray, pray, pray..which I know you do. Keeping your hands and mind busy will help ease the days. That is what I did...just kept so busy and tried not to dwell and to give my worries to God.
God Bless you and yours,
Becky
I would love to make one of these! Could you share the pattern you use?
